Who we are
HuntsUnited, LLC ("HuntsUnited", "we") runs huntsunited.com, the Hunt Map and our apps. This policy covers information we collect through them. Questions go to support@huntsunited.com.
What we collect and why
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, email, password (stored only as a secure hash), phone if you add it, home state | Run your account, sign you in, send booking and security emails, show what's relevant to your state |
| Hunter profile and season | Species, weapons, hunt areas, experience, goals, tags and applications, harvests, journal, gear lists | Build your season plan and Hunt Reports and suggest guides and lessons. Private to you. |
| Listings (guides, coaches, businesses) | Profile, photos, prices, services, area, hours, deals | Show your listing to hunters. This is public by design. |
| Pro verification | Guide license, insurance certificate, permits, an intro call or video | Check that a pro may legally offer what they list. Seen only by the pro and our review staff. |
| Bookings and payments | Requests, quotes, dates, party size, amounts, refunds, payout status | Make the booking work for both sides, handle refunds and the Guarantee, keep financial records |
| Messages | What you and other members send each other on HuntsUnited | Deliver your messages. Automatically screened for off-platform payment requests and scams to protect members. |
| Location | Your position on the Hunt Map, waypoints and tracks you save, live location in a Shared Hunt | Map features you ask for. See Location below. |
| Photos and files | Profile and listing photos, harvest photos, gear photos, receipts | Show them where you post them. Location and camera data is removed first. |
| Device and usage | IP address (stored as a one-way hash), browser type, pages and actions such as "booking requested", error logs | Keep the service secure and working, stop abuse, understand which features get used |
| Things you send us | Contact forms, guide applications, waitlist sign-ups, support emails | Answer you and process your request |
We don't collect payment card numbers: Stripe handles them directly. We don't ask for your Social Security number; if you're a pro receiving payouts, Stripe may ask for identity and tax details under its own privacy policy.
Location
- Your position on the Hunt Map is read by your browser or phone only when you allow it, to show where you are. It isn't stored on our servers unless you save a waypoint or track.
- Waypoints, tracks and areas you save are private to your account unless you share them.
- Shared Hunts share your live location only with members of that hunt, only while you have sharing turned on. Sharing turns off at the end of the hunt day by default, and you can stop it any time.
- Photos lose their GPS and camera data in your browser before upload, and our servers strip anything left. Exact pins are never shown on the Gear Exchange; only town and state.
Cookies and storage
We use only what the site needs to work. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| hu_at | Keeps you signed in (short-lived access cookie) | 15 minutes |
| hu_rt | Renews your sign-in securely | Up to 60 days, or until you sign out |
| Browser storage | Remembers settings, drafts and map data so the site loads fast and works offline on the Hunt Map | Until you clear it or sign out |
How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your information so the service works.
- When you close your account, it's hidden right away and deleted after 30 days (during which you can ask us to restore it).
- Payment and booking records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, with your personal details removed where possible.
- Security logs and backups are kept for a limited time, then overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your account details any time in your account settings.
- Get a copy of your data: email support@huntsunited.com from your account's email and we'll send it within 30 days.
- Delete your account in your account settings (Delete account).
- Emails: optional emails, like the Field Report newsletter, have an unsubscribe link in every message. Emails about your bookings, messages and account security are part of the service.
- Location: turn off location access in your browser or phone settings any time.
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a privacy law), you may have extra rights, such as to know what we hold, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising (we don't do either). Email us to use them; we won't treat you differently for doing so. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
Children
HuntsUnited is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13, and accounts require users to be 18 or older. Young hunters can join a hunt booked by a parent or guardian. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords, private storage for verification documents, short-lived sign-in tokens and access controls for our staff. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Use a strong password you don't use anywhere else. When you reset or change it, we sign you out on your other devices.
Changes and contact
If we make a significant change to this policy, we'll tell you by email or in the service before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
