We don't collect payment card numbers: Stripe handles them directly. We don't ask for your Social Security number; if you're a pro receiving payouts, Stripe may ask for identity and tax details under its own privacy policy.

Location

  • Your position on the Hunt Map is read by your browser or phone only when you allow it, to show where you are. It isn't stored on our servers unless you save a waypoint or track.
  • Waypoints, tracks and areas you save are private to your account unless you share them.
  • Shared Hunts share your live location only with members of that hunt, only while you have sharing turned on. Sharing turns off at the end of the hunt day by default, and you can stop it any time.
  • Photos lose their GPS and camera data in your browser before upload, and our servers strip anything left. Exact pins are never shown on the Gear Exchange; only town and state.

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only as follows.

WithWhat and why
Other membersYour public listing (pros); your name, state and request details with a pro you contact or book; your messages with the person you send them to; reviews you post
StripePayments, subscriptions, refunds and pro payouts
ResendSending our emails (booking updates, messages, password resets, confirmations)

Map, place search and weather providersWhen you use the Hunt Map, your browser requests map tiles and data from providers such as Esri (ArcGIS), the U.S. Geological Survey, OpenFreeMap, NOAA and state wildlife and land agencies. Place searches go to Photon (Komoot), and forecasts to Open-Meteo, with the area you're looking at. They receive your IP address and that area, not your account.
Google Fonts and VimeoOur fonts load from Google; Academy videos play from Vimeo. They receive your IP address and browser details when those load.

How long we keep it

  • While your account is open, we keep your information so the service works.

  • Payment and booking records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, with your personal details removed where possible.
  • Security logs and backups are kept for a limited time, then overwritten.

  • Delete your account in your account settings (Delete account).

  • Location: turn off location access in your browser or phone settings any time.

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a privacy law), you may have extra rights, such as to know what we hold, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising (we don't do either). Email us to use them; we won't treat you differently for doing so. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.

Children

HuntsUnited is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13, and accounts require users to be 18 or older. Young hunters can join a hunt booked by a parent or guardian. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords, private storage for verification documents, short-lived sign-in tokens and access controls for our staff. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.

Use a strong password you don't use anywhere else. When you reset or change it, we sign you out on your other devices.

Changes and contact

If we make a significant change to this policy, we'll tell you by email or in the service before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
